Bougainville / Papua New Guinea
Bougainville is a province of Papua New Guinea (PNG) with autonomous powers and a right to hold a referendum on independence at some point between 2015 and 2020. Recognizing the acceptance of the sovereignty of PNG, the arrangements are intended among other things to provide for a democratic and accountable system of government for Bougainville and empower Bougainvilleans to develop a distinct identity and realize their aspirations within the purview of the Constitution of PNG.

The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), recognized as a ‘Tribal Populated Area' by the government of Bangladesh, is a special administrative region of the country. The Peace Accord of 1997 which ended two decades of hostility in the region promises partial autonomy for the inhabitants.
